The group that was here has gone home now. Joanna and I are still here til Monday. We finished up the villages and I got some good footage. My project has some direction now, God has been showing me a lot exactly what he wants me to do. I taped Linda´s story and it was awesome. I can´t wait to share it. I have beeen getting some really good stuff and I´m excited. This morning Will, Angel´s uncle, came and showed the kids how to make a bag, although it was the first time he had ever done one in his life. He has sewed pants since he was 15. I got his story too. It is really exciting to see what he might accomplish in the future. The rest of the afternoon Joanna and I organized and labled fabric, and now we´re both exhausted. There is still so much to do in these next few days! Sorry that everything is so vague, I will let you all see my project and my videos once they´re done and you´ll get a better picture. Keep praying for God to work in my life and the people of Honduras. I have a feeling this won´t be the last time I come here.

Update

We have been continuing to visit villages to hand out boxes to the children and play games. Yesterday we went to a village and the vet that was with us gave the horses and cows deworming and vitamin medicines. There was one horse that had an absess and she cleaned it. I got it on video; it was pretty gross but its exciting that she could do this. Usually the men dont show up to these gatherings because nothing is in it for them. By taking care of their animals, hence their livlihood, we are minitering to them as well, and not just the women and children. It has been awesome. We ended up staying late last night, the mountains on the way up were absolutely wonderful, and the stars at night were breathtaking. I am still in good helth, and doubt that I will lose any weight while I am here. Linda is a good cook. I have been talking a lot with her and Angel, and am enjoying their company. Today Joanna got Angel´s uncle to come and look at the sewing machine that she has for her project. He got it running where we couldnt figure it out. Apparently he has had cancer for years and could not do much, so he took up sewing to make a living. The project for the kids looks like its picking up and should be completely running by the end of the week. The kids are sweet. Escarlett has a baby who is precious. Tonight we are going to the biggest village of them all to hand out more boxes. There are some people there with some mental health issues, pray that everything goes smoothly and that we will not have any problems. Until next time, Adios y Dios le bendiga!

I am Here!

I made it to Honduras and this is the first time I have been able to write. We arrived after a long day with no sleep, and stayed in a very nice Hotel in San Pedro Sula. We had TGI Fridays for supper. I always seem to eat at an American Restaurant for the first meal in Honduras, lol! That night, with a group that way leaving the nect day, we bagged up beans and rice that we had bought earlier in the market that day. In the morning we went to a marketplace to buy souveniers. All of the local artisans had their wares. I bought a few things so I wouldnt have to worry about them later. We then went to the airport and dropped off one crew and picked up another. My second meal in Honduras...Wendys. Once we had the new crew we went to a village, one of the poorest in Honduras, to hand out the beans, rice, and some Christmas boxes. I got some good video footage and I cant wait to share it with you! There was one woman named Ada Marina who really touched my heart. She invited a few of us to her house where she fed us the best tomales I have ever had. They tasted like cornbread meets grits, neither of which I like, but this was amazing. I wish I could let you taste it! From the village we went to Siguatepeque, and Joanna and I got off at her Honduram sisters house in Las Lajas, where we spent the night. Now I am at the market with Linda and her daughter Sheily, and will be doing homework for the rest of the day. I probably wont be able to write but every other day, but I will try to keep updated as best as I can! I dont know what tomorrow holds. Keep praying for us! I am loving it here!

Good Morning Everyone!

The week has begun and that means I am four days closer to departure. I would like to ask that you also remember my friend Toby Sanders as he travels to Brazil next week as well. Also, there will be many L.I.G.H.T. teams from North Greenville traveling all over the world this spring break, so keep them in your prayers next week too.

Today Pray:
That we will have sufficient time to pack and that we will not forget anything.
That we will have no trouble in checking in to the airports and that our travel will be safe.
That our teachers will be understanding that we have to miss a couple of classes ;)
Also that we won't miss anything important in said classes.
That I will not have any multimedia trouble...and not forget chargers, etc, since my project depends on cameras and video recording devices.
That our families will be at peace and not worry too much about us.

Thanks and I hope everyone has a great day!

Hello All!

I leave for Siguatepeque, Honduras at 8 am from Atlanta. I will be there from March 5th to March 15th. I am going with my friend Joanna, who was my roommate two years ago when I spent a summer school session there. Joanna's father has an organization called World Harvest Missions, and more specifically, Christian Community in Honduras (CCH). We will be staying with her Honduran sister, who was adopted by her parents, at their house. They have built Joanna her own apartment. Joanna has started a program for three street kids to create their own business, and so gain a small income. So far she has taught them some business skills and has challenged them to come up with some ideas of how to sew awning cloth in order to sell it. More on that later. I will be going to document some of this project, as well as tape some oral narratives of the people through digital storytelling. Basically I will be finding out the stories of the people's lives in order to make them and us more aware of how to improve their life. There is also a group going in conjunction with CCH to continue giving out Christmas boxes to the children there. Joanna tells me that we will most likely be visiting a new villiage everyday, and we will also be doing construction work. I will try to keep this blog updated as much as possible to inform you of all of the happenings. I would like to include a prayer list everyday as well. Thank you all for your interest!

Pray Today:

Pray for Joanna, me, and all involved as we prepare mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for our trip. Pray that God would give us all of the ammo we need to do good works for him.
Pray that we will be recieved well and that the people will understand what we are trying to do.
Pray that translation barriers will be crossed, and that there will be minimal problems.
Pray for our health and safety.
